About Me

Hey there! My name is Scott Sisskind, and I’m the mind behind Casketsdirect.com. The journey that led me here is very personal, and I’d like to share it with you.

It all started when I went through the difficult task of dealing with the burials of two beloved family members. In both cases, I was stunned by the high costs of their funerals. Paying a hefty price for my Uncle’s casket at the funeral home was an eye-opener, but at the time, I wasn’t aware there was another way.

After my uncle’s burial, I found out about an important FTC ruling. You actually have the right to buy directly from a casket company, bypassing the traditional costly channels. This knowledge changed everything when I faced another heartbreak earlier this year with the passing of my father.

Armed with this newfound understanding, I ordered his casket online and had it delivered straight to the funeral home. The result? I buried my father right next to my uncle, but this time, I saved thousands of dollars.

That experience sparked my mission to call attention to this option. So, I created Casketsdirect.com to help educate others about affordable funeral planning, ensuring that no one unnecessarily shoulders a financial burden during such a vulnerable time.

  1. Wow, what a powerful story — thank you for sharing something so personal and important. It must have been incredibly difficult to lose two family members in quick succession and to see how expensive funeral arrangements can be. I appreciate that you took a painful experience and turned it into a mission to help others avoid unnecessary financial burden by buying directly. That’s generous and practical at the same time. Do you plan to include guides on how to navigate the FTC ruling and find trustworthy casket sellers — especially for people who’ve never dealt with funeral planning before?

    • My experience with planning of the funerals of my Uncle and Father educated me about the FTC ruling that confirms our right to order a casket direct; bypassing funeral home mark ups. This is a great way to make our lives more affordable, at a time that can be a financial strain for working families.

  4. Scott, thank you for sharing such a personal and challenging journey. Dealing with loss is emotionally devastating, and the added stress of unexpected financial burdens can make it even harder. I truly appreciate how you have transformed your heartbreak into a mission to help others.

It’s astonishing how many people remain unaware of the FTC ruling that allows consumers to purchase caskets directly, bypassing the traditional and often costly channels, much like what you experienced with your uncle’s burial. Highlighting this specific consumer right is an essential service.

Your commitment to affordability and education during a family’s most vulnerable time is incredibly thoughtful.

What is the most important piece of advice you can provide regarding the logistics of ordering a casket online? Specifically, are there any common misunderstandings about coordinating delivery with funeral homes that first-time buyers should be aware of?

    • The most important thing is to order only from legitimate sources that can be relied upon. I intend on adding affiliate links to the three most prominent casket direct sources.  Giving people a quick and easy resource to help them choose the best casket for their loved one.  Whether it be a “green” or “traditional” type of casket, they will be empowered with all the options available.

Funerals are very expensive and ordering your loved one’s casket direct is a way of “Eliminating the Middleman” and making funerals more affordable.

You transform personal pain into a lever of public utility, and that is truly worthy. your proposal is not only an economic alternative, it is a form of reappropriation of mourning, dignity and the right to choose without suffering. By breaking the silence around costly funeral practices, you open a space of lucidity and solidarity for so many families.
Your approach is attributable, because it combines lived experience, concrete information and the desire to transmit it. Thank you for making your story a light for others.

  6. This is a difficult subject, but I commend you for taking on such a challenging and necessary mission. Reading your “About Me” section really highlights why the direct-to-consumer model is so crucial in the funeral industry.

Your commitment to transparency, dignity, and affordability is exactly what families need during their most vulnerable time. It’s truly a service when you can relieve families of the immense financial and emotional burden placed upon them by traditional funeral homes, which often mark up caskets by several hundred percent.

  7. Thank you for sharing such a personal and meaningful journey, Scott. I’m truly sorry for the loss of both your uncle and your father — navigating grief while facing unexpected financial pressure is something so many families quietly endure. Your transparency about that experience, and how it led to creating CasketsDirect, brings awareness to an option most people don’t realize they have during such a vulnerable time. Turning your loss into a mission to help others plan with dignity, clarity, and less financial strain is incredibly impactful. How have people responded so far when they learn this option exists for the first time

  8. Scott, I felt the weight of this. Losing family is already heavy. Then you meet the shock of funeral costs, right in the middle of grief. That is a hard moment to be forced into financial decisions.

What stayed with me is how you turned pain into a practical mission. You did not just accept the system as it is. You learned the rules. You found out people have a right to buy directly. Then you used that knowledge when your father passed, and you saved real money without changing the love, the honor, or the dignity of the burial.

I respect that you are building Casketsdirectdotcom from that place. Not as a hustle, but as protection for others. Many families do not even know they have options. They assume the funeral home price is the only price. Your story tells them, clearly, that there is another way.

There is something pro-humanity about that. Grief should not be turned into a trap. When people are vulnerable, they deserve clarity, not pressure.

  9. I’m sorry for the loss of your uncle and father, Scott. What struck me most about your story is the specific detail about the FTC ruling – I had no idea consumers had the right to purchase caskets directly and have them delivered to funeral homes. That’s exactly the kind of information that gets buried (no pun intended) when families are grieving.

The price difference you experienced between your uncle’s and father’s funerals must have been staggering. It’s unfortunate you had to learn this the hard way, but your willingness to share your story and help others is truly commendable.

    • Learning about the FTC funeral rule really opened my eyes  I have been in business for over 23 years and it did not dawn on me to order a casket directly.  Everyone I told was also not aware of this.

That really inspired me to try to educate as many people as possible.

  10. Have you ever sold a Green Casket before? What about a Traditional Casket? Can you believe you’re the first brand I came across that’s in the business of dealing with funerals beside Bradshaw & Range? What would you have to say to someone that thinks you need at least $10,000 to bury someone? What would be the circumstance in where you would recommend someone opt for a cremation instead of a traditional funeral?

    • Green Caskets are definitely trending.  There are several high quality sources for Caskets,  I am planning on adding affiliate links to my site soon. I think the cost of the plot would be the only reason you would need to spend over $10,000.

I was able to bury my father for less than $4,000; by ordering the casket and getting rid of the” Mickey Mouse ” funereal home fee’s.  But we already had a plot.

i Think the choice of cremation should be shared with loved ones ahead of time.  I knew my mothers wishes were to be cremated an she advised my where to spread her ashes.

I do think the high cost of traditional funerals are a reason cremations are trending in a big way.  It is a matter of practicality; if you cannot afford a traditional funeral, you have no choice.
